Tsetse infested areas in Kenya About 92,000 square kilometres of Kenya comprising of seven out of eight provinces including 60% of productive well watered rangelands are tsetse infested, reducing food security by 40-50% and thereby enhancing poverty. Approximately, 23% of the cattle are found in the tsetse infested parts of the country. The infested areas are grouped into severalĀ tsetse fly belts including the North and South of Mt. Kenya, South Rift, Lake Victoria basin, Central Kenya, Trans Mara-Narok, and the coastal belts. Eight spacies of tsetse including: Glossina pallidipes, G.morsitans, G.austeni, G.swynnertoni, G.fuscipes, G.brevipalpis, G.longipennis and G.fuscupleuris have been recorded in Kenya with each species adapted to various habits.
