Kisumu/Funyula, Kenya (National event)

World Rabies Day Zoonoses Conference

The Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA) has organized for a rabies/zoonoses conference at the Sunset Hotel, Kisumu city. The theme of the conference will be "Working together to make rabies history." Several experts in the fields of rabies and zoonoses are expected. The conference will be followed by activities in Funyula where dogs, cats and other domestic animals will be vaccinated. The activities have been organized in partnership with the Ministry of Livestock Development, Ministry of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control and other stakeholders.

Rarieda district, Kenya (Regional event)

World Rabies Day hosted by KEMRI / CDC
Duration: 9/28/09, 8am to , 5pm

This event will involve talks to schools on rabies awareness and protection against dog bites, including what to do in cases of dog bites.This year will also involve a bicycle race as part of the awareness. Free dog and cat vaccination against rabies, distemper and parvovirus shall be provided for dogs and cats in Rarieda district. The venue shall be Lwak centre and surrounding schools. T-shirts with WRD logo shall be available for distribution.

Nairobi / Machakos, Kenya (Local event)

Giant wall painting in Kibera and dog vaccinations in Machakos
Duration: 9/20/2009, 8am to 9/29/2009, 5 pm

A giant wall painting with rabies information. The activity will be conducted in Kibera as a conclusion of the vaccination and education campaign phase of the rabies control project. We are also planning a mass dog vaccination in the neighboring Machakos district. We would appreciate support in any way.
