The Ministry climbed 31 places in the performance rankings of Government Ministries from position 43 in the 2008/2009 to position 12 in 2009/2010 Financial Year,becoming the Ministry that recorded the biggest improvement. The excellent performance was largely attributed to the Leather Sector where value addition was most successful among others.
The PS, Mr.Kenneth Lusaka officially commissioned three milk cooling plants at Sang’alo, Bukembe and Kamukuywa in Bungoma County which are funded by the Ministry. He said that they will provide a market for livestock and dairy farmers.
The Ministry scooped the best large Government stand trophy, during last year's Mombasa International ASK show.The Ministry officers had a good chance to demonstrate their innovative use of Digital pen techonology for disease reporting to response team at the Ministry headquarters from the field officers among other demonstrations.
Following the severe and prolonged drought resulting from the La-Nina weather phenomena which led to suppressed short rains from October 2010, the Ministry of Livestock Development has further been allocated funds for emergency interventions to mitigate the effects of the drought.
