Core Functions

In fulfilling its mandate, the Ministry has a number of core functions that are geared towards achieving its vision and mission. These include:

1. Formulation, implementation and monitoring of policy
2. Development and co-ordination of programmes
3. Regulatory management and quality control of inputs, produce and products
4. Management and control of diseases and pests
5. Provision and facilitation of extension services
6. Research agenda setting, liaison and coordination
7. Promotion and development of emerging livestock such as crocodiles and ostriches
8. Management of information and setting the agenda for monitoring and management of food security
9. Management and conservation of the natural resource base
