The PS, Mr.Kenneth Lusaka officially commissioned three milk cooling plants at Sang’alo, Bukembe and Kamukuywa in Bungoma County which are funded by the Ministry. He said that they will provide a market for livestock and dairy farmers.
The PS revealed that the Ministry is emphasizing on value addition where farmers should appreciate manufacturing milk related commodities such as yoghurt, cheese amongst other products to attract more profit without entirely depending on raw material. He told farmers that the Ministry has provided 180 strokes of jersey for artificial insemination to be shared equally between farmers in Sang’alo, Bukembe and Kamukuywa all respectively in a move to promote milk production.Accompanied with him was the Director Kenya Dairy Board Mr.Machira Gichohi who said that the board will ferry 150 farmers from Bungoma county to leading milk production areas like in the Rift Valley and Central regions for education purposes.
